“I would’ve beat Canelo, for sure. He’s just washed up, inactive, doesn’t throw a lot of punches and not very strong”
A couple of months ago there was speculation about the possibility of a fight between Paul and the undisputed super middleweight champion.

A couple of months ago, speculation swirled around a potential fight between YouTuber and boxer Jake Paul and Mexico’s undisputed super middleweight champion, Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez. The bout was rumored to take place this May in Las Vegas.

Jake Paul comes out swinging
That hypothetical clash never materialized. Instead, Canelo signed a multi-fight deal with Riyadh Season, kicking it off with a win over Cuban challenger William Scull to reclaim the undisputed title.
Following that fight, Jake Paul didn’t hold back during an appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, boldly declaring that he would have beaten the Mexican champion.
“I would’ve beat Canelo, for sure,” Paul said. “Even just watching him against Scull – he’s just washed up, inactive, doesn’t throw a lot of punches, and not very strong.”

The Canelo-Scull fight drew heavy criticism for its lack of action. In fact, it broke the CompuBox record for the lowest number of punches thrown in a 12-round bout – just 445 in total. Canelo won by unanimous decision.
“When it happens, I’ll be the one laughing last,” Paul added. “I know what I’m capable of. There are a lot more names on the list I’m going to beat in the coming years.”
What next for Jake Paul?
For now, Jake Paul is scheduled to fight former world champion Julio César Chávez Jr. in a cruiserweight bout on June 28 in Anaheim. Paul also fought Mike Tyson last November in a match that counted toward his professional record.
Paul, speaking about minute 3:06, didn’t stop there. He made it clear he’d still want a shot at Canelo, even if the Mexican loses his planned September fight against Terence Crawford.
“From the outside looking in, we’re the two biggest names in the sport,” Paul said. “That’s why it’ll be fun and exciting. I like making history and being part of big events.”
