Jake Paul continued his pursuit of a world title shot by beating former WBC middleweight champion Julio César Chávez Jr. on Saturday, earning a unanimous-decision victory in Anaheim.

The YouTuber-turned-boxer took his professional record to 12-1 at Honda Center, when judges scored the cruiserweight bout 99-91, 97-93, 98-92 in Paul’s favor.

“I’ll be able to go fight for a world championship”

Nicknamed “the Problem Child”, Paul had said pre-fight that the World Boxing Association (WBA) and the World Boxing Council (WBC) planned to rank him if he triumphed over Chávez Jr., 39. “Based off of that ranking, I’ll then be able to go fight for a world championship,” he told an interview with the Iced Coffee Hour podcast.

Speaking after his win over Chávez Jr., Paul called out several fighters, including the unified cruiserweight champion Gilberto Ramírez and the WBA lightweight title holder Gervonta Davis. “I want tougher fighters, I want to be world champion,” the 28-year-old said.

For Chávez, defeat to Paul was his sixth loss in 14 fights since the veteran relinquished his middleweight belt in September 2012. The Mexican now has a 54-7-1 professional record.

How will Jake Paul make from fighting Julio César Chávez Jr.?

Paul reportedly made $40 million from his win over Mike Tyson in November, which was streamed live on Netflix to record audience figures. It is estimated that “Iron Mike” earned approximately half of that for dusting off the gloves after almost two decades.

The numbers won’t be quite as spectacular for Paul vs Chávez Jr., although neither of the two will be out of pocket following their face-off in Anaheim on Saturday.

The official purse for the fight hasn’t been confirmed, with the final figure dependent on pay-per-view revenue from purchases from DAZN.

Paul vs Chávez Jr.: how much will they make?

According to the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC), Paul is only guaranteed $300,000 for the fight, less than half of what Chávez Jr. stands to make ($700,000). However, those are only figures that have been disclosed.

Those numbers will be significantly topped up by sponsorships, merchandise and brand deals, in addition to PPV revenue shares. As a result, it is believed Paul could take home somewhere in the region of $8-10 million, while Chávez Jr. is likely to pocket around $2.5 million.
