Makhachev gives green light to White House showdown with Topuria: “If the UFC wants it”
UFC welterweight champion Makhachev says he’s ready to face Topuria in one of the promotion’s most extraordinary events ever.
UFC fans could be closer than ever to seeing one of the most anticipated fights in recent history, pitting Russian welterweight champion Islam Makhachev against Hispanic-Georgian contender Ilia Topuria.
Rumors of the matchup reignited after Makhachev spoke with Serbian outlet Telegraf during a visit to the Balkans.
“I’m ready”
In the interview, Makhachev left the door wide open for a fight with Topuria. “I like the idea of fighting Ilia Topuria. If the UFC wants it, because I know a lot of fans want this fight, I’m ready,” he said.
The White House to host Makhachev vs. Topuria?
The bout could take place at the UFC’s so-called “White House” event, a stage where Makhachev has expressed interest in competing. “The White House is one of the venues where I might fight next. We have Ramadan coming up, so I won’t be able to train during that time. Afterward, I’ll start my training camp gradually. Whether it’s at the White House or another date, I’ll be ready.”
