Appearing in his first Miami Open final today, Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov faces Italy’s Jannik Sinner, who is out to go one better than last year.

Sinner lost out to Daniil Medvedev in the 2023 men’s singles final - but the No. 3 seed knocked out the Russian this year, winning the pair’s semi-final 6-1, 6-2.

Meanwhile, No. 11 seed Dimitrov dumped out tournament favourite Carlos Alcaraz in the quarter-finals, before securing a three-set win over Alexander Medvedev in the last four.

Dimitrov vs Sinner: head to head

Dimitrov won the players’ first meeting, triumphing in three sets in the third round of the Italian Open in 2020.

Since then, however, Sinner has had the upper hand, claiming two victories in a row against Dimitrov. He eliminated the 32-year-old in straight sets in the third round of last year’s Miami Open, before prevailing in three sets in the quarter-finals of the 2023 China Open - a tournament he went on to win.

What happened yesterday at the Miami Open?

On Saturday, the US’s Danielle Collins lifted her first ever WTA 1000 title, and became the first unseeded player to win the Miami Open women’s singles tournament since Kim Clijsters in 2005.

Collins, who has said she intends to retire at the end of the year, beat Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina 7-5, 6-3.

What a dream come true, to have played at the level that I have played consistently over the last two weeks,” the Floridian said post-match.

Earlier in the day, India’s Rohan Bopanna and Australia’s Matthew Ebden won the men’s doubles final, defeating American Austin Krajicek and Croat Ivan Dodig 6–7, 6–3, 10–6.
