Jannik Sinner has been crowned 2025 Australian Open champion after a 6-3, 7-6, 6-3 victory over Alexander Zverev in Melbourne.

World No. 1 Sinner claims his third Grand Slam, having won his maiden one at last year’s tournament. The 23-year-old also won the US Open, the last major of 2024, in September.

Zverev, meanwhile, had been on the hunt for his first ever Grand Slam title. The No. 4 seed had previously reached the finals of the US Open (2020) and the French Open (2024), where he was beaten by Dominic Thiem and Carlos Alcaraz respectively.

How much prize money does Sinner get for winning the Australian Open 2025?

Sinner will take home $2.1 million for coming out on top in the men’s singles tournament in Melbourne. That’s an 11% increase from 2024.

However, that figure means the Australian Open is the least lucrative of the four tennis Grand Slams.

Although prize money for 2025 has yet to be released, the winners of last year’s French Open, Wimbledon and US Open earned more than the current tournament in Melbourne.

Singles Grand Slam prize money in tennis

Australian Open (2025) - $2.1 million

French Open (2024) - $2.5 million

Wimbleon (2024) - $3.34 million

US Open (2024) - $3.6 million

The numbers show a whopping $1.5 million gap between the Australian Open and last year’s US Open, which offers the biggest payout.

As is the case with the other Grand Slams, there is equal prize money for men and women at the Australian Open, with the United States’ Madison Keys scooping the same amount for her victory over Aryna Sabalenka on Saturday.

Zverev, the beaten finalist, meanwhile, will pocket $1.18 million.

What is Jannik Sinner’s ATP ranking after winning the Australian Open 2025?

Already ranked No. 1 in the world, Sinner stays at the top following his victory in Australia.

Zverev, meanwhile, began the week as the world No. 2 and also stays put, even if he wins in Melbourne.
