Ovechkin tops Gretzky’s record: These are the top 15 goal scorers in NHL history
Capitals Captain Alex Ovechkin has become the top NHL goal scorer in history, breaking No. 99’s record

On Sunday, April 6, 2025, Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin scored the 895th goal of his NHL career topping the great one’s record.
Ovechkin became the third NHL player- behind Wayne Gretzky and Gordie Howe- to reach the 800-goal milestone in December 2022. He has scored 200 or more goals in the last three decades, the first player to ever do so.
He has another record he shares with Teemu Selanne, Johnny Bucyk and Gordie Howe: The only hockey players in history to score 30 or more goals in a season at the age of 39 or older.
