Update:

Belarusian tennis star Aryna Sabalenka, currently ranked No. 1 in the WTA, hinted she may never return to the WTA 1000 event in Dubai after the tournament director, Salah Tahlak, publicly criticized her for withdrawing this year due to a minor injury.

Tahlak made his remarks in an interview with the UAE outlet The National, where he discussed the explanations he received from both Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek. He also suggested that top players should face “tougher penalties” than simple fines when they skip WTA 1000 tournaments.

Dubai director “stepped over the line”

Sabalenka didn’t hold back. Speaking at her pre‑tournament press conference ahead of the Miami Open on Wednesday afternoon, she blasted Tahlak’s comments and said she’s seriously considering skipping Dubai for good.

It’s really disappointing to see a tournament director—and the tournament itself—not protect the players,” Sabalenka said. “All they care about is their event, nothing else. His comment was ridiculous. I’m honestly not sure I ever want to play in Dubai again after that. For me, it crossed the line.”
