Sinner says that becoming the world No. 1 is “a dream” goal

The Italian star admitted that taking the No. 1 spot from Novak Djokovic is his main goal after winning the Australian Open.

Another week in the ATP has started, and Jannik Sinner will be one of the biggest names who will come back from their breaks to compete again.

All eyes are now on the 22-year-old talent, as he proved he is now ready to face and defeat the very best players in the most important events of the calendar.

Sinner’s confidence after defeating Djokovic three times in their last four games and being able to comeback from two sets down in a major final is probably higher than ever in his career and the pressure of having won one Grand Slam tournament could also help him play his best tennis.

Moreover, he seems to have broken the mental obstacle that didn’t let him perform as needed to defeat players like Daniil Medvedev, who used to get his hand raised after every match both men played against each other.

Sinner’s “dream” goal: sitting on top of the ATP rakings

After winning in Melbourne, he wants more. His next goal is to keep winning matches and events to win more points in the rankings and overtake Djokovic in the fight for the top spot.

Sinner is currently the world No. 4 after lifting the title in Australia and he’s aware that he’s playing his best tennis as a professional.

The winner of 11 ATP titles will now feature in the Rotterdam Open, where he will try to go all the way.

“Let’s see. I don’t like to talk about ranking. I just try to be happy on the court and improve as a player right? That’s the only thing I can control. And then the rest you cannot control the uncontrollable. So I’m happy that I’m [ranked] four at the moment. For sure, my dream is to become number one in the world, and I will work as hard as possible”, Sinner said before his debut in this year’s edition of the Rotterdam event.

The young talent is aware that he could make more history by improving his situation in the rankings, as there has only been one Italian player in tennis history who also got to the fourth-highest spot in the rankings, Adriano Panatta.

In Rotterdam, Sinner will take on the dangerous Botic van de Zandschulp, a tricky debut, as the Dutch will be looking to pull off the upset in front of his crowd.
