Facing his 62nd fight as a professional, Saúl Álvarez has only recorded two defeats- against Floyd Mayweather and Dmitry Bivol. However, as an amateur he was also beaten.

According to BoxRec, Canelo’s tally before turning pro was 44-2. There appear to be inconsistencies in his records as it is also speculated that Álvarez only had 20 amateur fights.

One of those two presumed defeats was against Mario Abel Cázares in the 2004 Youth Olympiad, held in Culiacán. The name of the boxer in the other loss is unknown.

Cázares does not forget Canelo

Although the fight between Álvarez and Cázares took place 18 years ago, the Culiacán-born boxer wants a second chance against Canelo.

Since 2021, Cázares, who had a brief stint in professional boxing, has asked Álvarez for a rematch, this time in a fight regulated by international organizations.

"We are not going to give up until we get that duel, we already beat 'Canelo' and I can leave him crying again," he said. "He knows he has an outstanding debt with me, it's just a matter of him not being afraid and wanting to fight."

Cázares, 32, made his professional debut in 2015 and is 12-1 (five knockouts). His last victory was against Julio César Chávez Jr. and he added 12 wins in a row before being defeated by David Morrell.
