This is the reason why golfers are allowed to use range finders at the 2025 Truist Championship
Players and caddies will be able to use distance-measuring devices for the last time this week at as six-week experiment concludes.

Distance-measuring have been able to be used at PGA Tour golf tournaments, as part of an experiment aimed at speeding up the pace of play.
“An extra tool in their toolbox for four weeks”
Players and their caddies have been permitted to use the equipment at events over the last month, with the 2025 Truist Championship the last tournament that will be part of of the trial.
According to the PGA Tour, the devices must not be used to provide players with any information other than the distance of their shot.
“All other features such as course mapping, club selection advice and measuring slope, elevation and wind must be disabled prior to using the device during competition,” the body said. If players fail to comply with this requirement, they will first be given a two-shot penalty. They will then be disqualified for a second offense.
“They’re going to have an extra tool in their toolbox for four weeks, and we’re interested in hearing, following that period, how was it?” Gary Young, the PGA Tour’s senior vice-president of rules and competitions, said. “Do you feel it was beneficial? Do you feel it helped you with pace of play?”

Why isn’t Scottie Scheffler playing in the Truist Championship?
“In terms of major championship prep, I think last year I learned a little bit about my prep work. Going from the Memorial to the US Open was definitely a challenge,” the World No. 1 explained. “Having not played Philly Cricket before, maybe that factored into my decision a little bit.”
