The fourth and last major of the year is getting closer, with Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic being the clear favorites to lift the trophy in New York.
The countdown for the last Grand Slam tournament of the year has begun. After the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati came to a close, players will now focus on their last preparations to get to New York in great shape.
Who will probably take a small break before coming back to full-training mode will be Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic, who played the longest match in the Cincinnati tournament’s history on Sunday, with the Serb ultimately winning the final in the third set tiebreaker (5-7, 7-6, 7-6) in nearly four hours of play.
Alexander Zverev, Daniil Medvedev, Jannik Sinner, and Taylor Fritz will be some of the other players that will try to go all the way in the tournament.
In the women’s category, Iga Swiatek will be looking to defend her title and win her fifth Grand Slam tournament. However, Aryna Sabalenka, Elena Rybakina, Cori Gauff & co. will try to dethrone the Polish star.

US Open: prediction
Carlos Alcaraz will need some rest after his efforts in Toronto and Cincinnati, especially after the long and hard-fought final against Novak Djokovic on Sunday. Although the Serb managed to defeat the Spaniard, it’s hard to imagine him beating in a five-sets hypothetical final, so we believe Alcaraz will win his third major.
As for the women’s category, everything is wide open, with a few players with real options of winning the trophy. Sabalenka seems to be Swiatek’s main menace in New York, but the Americans Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula seem ready to level up and conquer the trophy. But the Polish player has the experience, despite her young age, of playing big matches and finals, and that could prove decisive here.
