What did Poirier say to Makhachev in the UFC 302 staredown?

‘The Diamond’, ready for a war in the main event, sent the undefeated Dagestani a brutal message during their intense faceoff.

Passion, sweat, and blood. That’s what fans will probably witness in the UFC 302′s main event this weekend. Islam Makhachev is set to make his third lightweight title defense against Dustin Poirier, who will be looking to beat the odds and pull off a massive upset.

The Dagestani fighter, regarded as one of the best mixed martial artists in the entire UFC, will try to get his hand raised on Saturday night by using his grappling and ground game, although he is also a dangerous stand-up fighter.

Meanwhile, The Diamond is one of the most respected fighters in the company. He’s probably the best fighter to have never won a UFC Championship, after losing in his previous two title fights. Although he was the lightweight interim titleholder, he never held the official belt, as Khabib Nurmagomedov and Charles Oliveira were better than the Louisiana native.

Nurmagomedov will return to Islam’s corner after missing the two fights Makhachev had with Alexander Volkanovski and The Eagle’s presence could prove differential, as he knows what it takes to beat Poirier.

Poirier’s scary message to Makhachev ahead of UFC 302

If the UFC 302′s main event was already seen as one of the best fights that could be seen nowadays in the MMA world, now it promises to be even more interesting after both fighters exchanged some words during their faceoff.

Poirier knows he could well have his last title shot, as the American is 35 and it seems he won’t be around much longer. He admitted he’s ready for the challenge, adding this is a lifetime opportunity.

During his face-to-face with the Russian fighter, Poirier sent him a vicious warning for the Saturday clash.

“I’m going to knock your ass out, brother. Sleep. I’m going to sleep stop you. You’re going to be diving for my legs. You’re going to be laying and praying. You’re going to sleep, motherf—ker”.

“Don’t say motherf—ker,” Makhachev replied. Poirier repeated it before things started to get tense and both started getting held back.

Poirier, who was KO’d by Justin Gaethje in their fight for the BMF belt, bounced back with a spectacular victory over the aggressive Benoit Saint-Denis. Makhachev’s last fight finished with a leg-kick knockout win over Volkanovski in the first round.
