Former unified heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz will face Luis ‘King Kong’ Ortiz of Cuba this Sunday, September 4, after being out of action for over a year. The two will clash at Crypto.com Arena, in the city of Los Angeles.

Read all the details of how to watch the fight here.

Ruiz rose to fame after defeating Anthony Joshua by technical knockout in 2019 and becoming the first boxer of Mexican descent to be a heavyweight champion. However, Joshua got back his titles only three months later, when he defeated Ruiz via unanimous decision.

Andy Ruiz ready to climb back up

The Mexican-American got back in the ring in May of last year, and conquered former WBC title challenger Chris Arreola by unanimous decision.

Now he is on a quest to to get another shot at the world title, and his clash with Ortiz is a step towards that goal.

Despite being a 32-year-old boxer who has been a professional for 13 years with a 34-2 record, Ruiz has had a generally low-key career. This is why he has not brought in the big bucks like other fighters, such as fellow Mexican Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.

Andy Ruiz’s fortune

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Ruiz’s fortune amounts to $10 million dollars, a figure he reached largely thanks to the $7 million he earned for the fight in which he scored an upset over Joshua.

Before the fight against the British boxer, the total earnings of ‘Destroyer’ in the ring only reached $300,000. The fight with the British boxer catapulted him to millionaire’s row.

Going head-to-head with Ortiz could end up putting him back into the circles of elite boxers- the kind of fighters that bring home elite paychecks.
