What is the weather forecast for the US Open? Humidity, temperatures and wind at Pinehurst
Here’s how things look in terms of the weather ahead of the US Open.
The US Open is set to get underway on June 13 and will carry on until June 16.
Ahead of the tournament, we’ve had plenty to get our teeth into, most notably the possible absence of Jon Rahm, who arrived for his pre-tournament press conference at Pinehurst wearing one shoe and one flip-flop.
Will Jon Rahm play at the US Open?
“I don’t know”, said the Spaniard, who was asked how his foot came to be infected. The same answer goes for whether or not he’ll end up taking part; his first practice round takes place on June 12 and it will be then when he makes his decision on the pain.
“Could I have dragged myself out there (on Saturday) and posted some kind of a score? Yeah”, he admitted, “but it was getting to a point where I wasn’t making the swings I wanted to make, and I could have hurt other parts of my swing just because of the pain. As to right now (playing) this week, I don’t know.”
Weather Forecast June 13
After sunrise, the highest temperature will be around 89º, with a slight chance of rain sitting at just 7% likelihood. Cloud cover means the humidity levels will be high in the morning, at around 80%, and will gradually drop to around 50% once the sun begins to drop out of the sky as the day progresses.
Weather Forecast June 14
The second day of the tournament will see a similar set of weather conditions to opening day, with temperatures slightly higher, reaching a maximum of 93º. The sun, unlike on June 13, will be fully on show, meaning sunglasses and head protection will likely be necessary for fans and players instead of raincoats (5% chance of rain). The nighttime temperatures will sit at around 73º, as the cloud cover comes back across the sky for a repeat of day 1 conditions.
Weather Forecast June 15
June 15 will see a cloudier sky than in day 2, but temperatures will sit at around 91º. The chance of rain will once again be incredibly low, at just 5%. The wind, unlike in the first two days (6mph, 4mph), the wind may prove to be a factor, blowing at 9mph in a north-easterly direction.
Weather Forecast June 16
The final day of the US Open will see the temperatures hover around the 89º mark, with the now easterly winds dropping back down to ‘light’ levels and the chances of rain also dipping, to 4%. It will be a hot day with cloud cover being blown in and out, meaning that it’s probably best to keep you sunglasses close to hand, as well as the sun lotion.
As things stand, Scottie Scheffler, who has claimed five victories on the PGA Tour in 2024, is the favourite to win the whole thing. His wins include titles such as the Masters, Arnold Palmer Invitational, The Players Championship, and the Memorial Tournament.
The US Open will take place between June 13 and 16 in North Carolina at Pinehurst Resort.
