What was Jay Briscoe’s cause of death? Ring of Honor wrestler dies aged 38

The two-time ROH World Champion, also known for his successful tag team the Briscoe Brothers, has passed away.

On Wednesday, we heard the tragic news of the death of professional wrestler Jay Briscoe, real name, Jamin Pugh. He was just 38 years old. This was communicated on Twitter by Tony Khan, CEO of All Elite Wrestling and owner of ROH.

“Sadly, Jamin Pugh has passed away,” Khan wrote. “Known to fans as Jay Briscoe, he was a star in ROH for over 20 years, from the first show until today. Jay and his brother Mark dominated ROH, reigning as champions to this day.

“We’ll do whatever we can to support his family. Rest In Peace Jamin.”

Although not yet officially confirmed, several news sites have reported that the cause of his death was in a car accident, in Laurel, Delaware. Local police tweeted about an accident there although no names were provided.

“Laurel Road at Little Hill Road will be closed for an extended period due to a fatal accident. DSP on-scene.”

There was also a Facebook post by Laurel District School which suggested the early reports are accurate.

Due to an unthinkable tragedy in our community this evening, The Laurel School District will be closed for tomorrow, Wednesday January 18, 2023. Schools will reopen on Thursday. Please keep the Pugh family in your thoughts and prayers.

Who is Jay Briscoe?

Jay Briscoe was signed to Ring of Honor (ROH) and he was a two-time ROH World Champion while also holding the ROH World Tag Team Championship multiple times with his brother Mark Briscoe. He was known for his high-flying and hard-hitting style of wrestling.

He was with ROH since its inception in 2002, and has also wrestled for other promotions such as Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (PWG) and Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW), as well as being involved in Japan for Pro Wrestling Noah and New Japan Pro-Wrestling.
