What’s the cutline at the 2024 US Women’s Open? Who missed the cut?
The action continued on day two in Lancaster, Pennsylvania with Wichannee Meechai at -4 and American Andrea Lee at -2 at the top of the leader board.
The 79th edition of the US Women’s Open finished on play on Friday at Lancaster Country Club. Tough course conditions and firm greens allowed only four players to finish under par.
2021 Open champion Yuka Saso finished day 2 at -1 for the tournament. The Japanese golfer finished behind Andrea Lee, Wichanee Meechai and Minjee Lee.
The action will resume on Friday with golfers who managed to make the cut at the end of day two. The cutline for the 2024 US Women’s Open ended up at +8 meaning that a number of established players will face a battle to make it to the third day of play.
This figure changed dramatically as the picture developed on day two and is a testament to the challenging conditions in Pennsylvania for the four-day golfing event.
Who missed the cut at the US Women’s Open?
The big surprise was Rolex Ranking No. 1 Nelly Korda, who finished on +10. The American needed 10 strokes to complete the par-3 12th hole after hitting a slope and seeing her ball roll agonisingly into a creek, requiring two drop balls to finally free herself.
“Just honestly, I just didn’t play well today,” Korda said after a tough day’s play on Thursday. “Making a 10 on a par 3 will definitely not do you any good at a U.S. Open. I started off really poorly but played pretty well on the back nine. Just a bad day in the office. I’m human. I’m going to have bad days.” She was unable to make up any ground on Friday.
Also stuck on +10 is Irish Ryder Cup participant Leona Maguire, who finished at 10-over par as well. American Rose Zhang ended her participation with 11-over par on Friday and Lexi Thompson ended up at +13 in her last US Open.
