When will Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk fight for the undisputed heavyweight title?

The much-awaited unification fight between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk had long been delayed, reportedly because of disagreements about money, and the two boxers took to social media to bring the negotiations to a head. The camp of the Ukrainian reportedly wanted a 60-40 split in favor of Fury.

Fury uploaded a video saying that Usyk was worth 30%; thus, he stated that the split of the purse should be 70-30. He said that he would deduct 1% from this 30% offer, for each day that the Ukrainian did not agree to the deal.

Usyk’s response

Usyk responded with his own video, saying that he will agree to the 70-30 split and fight ‘greedy belly’ Fury on April 29 at Wembley Stadium, though he had conditions of his own. He said that the British boxer should donate one million pounds to the people of Ukraine immediately after the fight, and that for everyday that Fury delays, he will pay one percent of his share of the purse to the Ukrainians.

Usyk’s reply seemed to infuriate Fury, who uploaded a vitriolic response to the Ukrainian’s counter offer. “Usyk you little s--tbag, sign the contract, get your money, and get f---ed up, you little s--thouse.” He then proceeded to call him a “gappy-tooth, ugly bastard.”

After the war of words, it appears a deal has been struck, with both sides notifying the WBA that they have agreed to terms. Usyk reportedly agreed to the 70-30 split, although it has not yet been determined if Fury will accede to the demand of a million-pound donation to Ukraine.

There is a lot of stake in this battle, as Fury will be bringing his WBC heavyweight title to the table, while Usyk will be putting his IBF, WBA and WBO belts on the line.

The fight has been set for Saturday, April 29, 2023 at Wembley Stadium in London.
