Who could ‘Canelo’ Álvarez fight next after ending PBC deal?

Mexican boxer Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez has reportedly parted ways with Premier Boxing Champions, having failed to reach a deal over a bout with Jermall Chalo.

Mexican boxer Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez has reportedly agreed to terminate his partnership with promoters Premier Boxing Champions. Sources have told the ESPN journalist Mike Coppinger that Álvarez and PBC are to part ways just one fight into a three-bout agreement.

Will Canelo return to DAZN for Berlanga, Munguía fights?

Coppinger adds that the 33-year-old could now sign with DAZN - a deal that would pave the way for him to take on the Puerto Rican-American Edgar Berlanga in May, followed by fellow Mexican Jaime Munguía in September.

Álvarez’s PBC deal limited to Jermell Chalo win

Having penned a deal with PBC worth over $100 million in 2023, Álvarez won the first of three planned bouts in September, when he beat Jermell Chalo in Paradise, Nevada.

He was expected to follow up that win with a May clash against the American’s twin brother, Jermall, but an agreement could not be reached. For Álvarez’s third fight with PBC, Terence Crawford had been heavily tipped to take on the Mexican, having last year unified all four world welterweight titles by defeating compatriot Errol Spence Jr.

Were Álvarez to sign with DAZN, it wouldn’t be his first contract with the streaming service. Between 2018 and 2023, he fought under the DAZN umbrella as part of a $365 million, 11-fight agreement.

Canelo-Benavidez not happening for time being

Meanwhile, it appears that a fight between Álvarez and countryman David Benavidez is not on the cards for now. Benavidez is to take on Oleksandr Gvozdyk in May, in what will be the 27-year-old’s debut at light heavyweight.
