RYDER CUP
Who played for Team USA at the 2023 Ryder Cup? Meet the 12 players
Europe secured the Ryder Cup with a 16.5-11.5 win over the United States team after a last-day fightback at Marco Simone golf course in Rome.
The United States aimed to retain the Ryder Cup in Rome and achieve its first victory on foreign soil since 1993, specifically at the Belfry.
Having secured a dominant win at Whistling Straits in 2021, the Stars and Stripes were considered favorites to defend the trophy.
Captain Zach Johnson had numerous options to consider, but it appears that his selection of players may have been influenced more by their personalities than their playing abilities.
Here are the 12 players who represented Team USA at the Ryder Cup
That impressive group of golfers defended the stars and stripes in late September last year at the Marco Simone Country Club located just outside of Rome.
Who were the captain’s picks?
Rickie Fowler played great golf last year after a rough patch of a few years. He’s always a crowd favorite and played very well in the 2023 season with a T6 at the Charles Schwab Challenge back in May, then T9 at the Memorial Tournament, T5 at the US Open, and a win at the Rocket Mortgage Classic in July.
Jordan Spieth and Collin Morikawa made the team because of their quality on the course and their chemistry off the course, which Zach Johnson has considered with these two captain’s picks.
Justin Thomas hasn’t had a great or even a good year, but he’s come anyway to Rome. Definitely one of the most liked guys on the team, more importantly, everyone was hopeful he can get his game together before the tournament start, thing that didn’t happened at the end.
Brooks Koepka got the pick; although controversial as a LIV golfer, he was always liked by most of the guys on the PGA Tour. He won the PGA Championship and was T2 at the Masters. He knows how to win on the big stage, so Zach Johnson decided to take him.
