The Ryder Cup golf tournament occurs every two years and is one of the most popular events in the golfing world. The tournament rotates between United States and European locations, with the last competition held at the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club in Rome, Italy. This prestigious tournament features the world’s best golfers competing for their respective teams.

One interesting fact about the Ryder Cup is that the European team has not lost on their home soil since 1993. This impressive winning streak of the European squad continued after Europe secured the Ryder Cup with a 16.5-11.5 win over the United States team after a last-day fightback at the Marco Simone golf course.

Luke Donald, the captain of the European golf team, chose the six outstanding golfers: Ludvig Åberg from Sweden, Tommy Fleetwood from England, Nicolai Højgaard from Denmark, Shane Lowry from Ireland, Justin Rose from England, and Sepp Straka from Austria.

Each player had a remarkable track record in the sport and contributed immensely to the team’s success in the tournament.

The Ryder Cup’s twelve-man roster included the six captain’s picks and the automatic qualifiers: Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, Robert MacIntyre, Viktor Hovland, Tyrrell Hatton, and Matt Fitzpatrick.

Who are the invited players for Team Europe?

One of the standout picks was a 23-year-old Swede named Ludvig Åberg, a top player at Texas Tech. Åberg impressed the golfing world by winning his first professional tournament at the European Masters, which was only his ninth professional tournament after turning pro last June. Interestingly, it was Åberg’s first time playing in the Ryder Cup without competing in a major championship.

The decision to include Højgaard in the Ryder Cup team was a bit of a surprise. Despite only having two European tour wins under his belt, the 22-year-old Danish golfer had the chance to gain valuable experience in the tournament. Højgaard managed to secure the final spot, beating out Adrian Meronk of Poland and Victor Perez of France.
