Why is Andy Murray not playing at Wimbledon?
The Scottish tennis star made a last-minute decision not to participate in the men’s singles tournament. David Goffin will take his place.

It was seen coming, but it is no less disappointing for British, and global, tennis fans as Andy Murray confirms he will not play at the Wimbledon men’s singles this year. The Scottish player withdrew from the tournament at the last moment due to continued discomfort in his back after recently undergoing surgery to have a cyst that was close to his spinal cord removed. This year was expected to be his final bow on the famous courts.
Feels right at this point to have an emotional throwback to 2013, when Andy Murray fulfilled his dream and became the first British man able to win the singles trophy in 77 years

Now 37, the double Wimbledon singles champion was scheduled to face Tomas Machac on Tuesday. But a statement from his team cleared up the doubts.
“Unfortunately, despite working incredibly hard on his recovery since his operation just over a week ago, Andy has taken the very difficult decision not to play the singles this year.”
Will Andy Murray play in Wimbledon doubles?
The statement continued with some hope about the former number one still making an appearance at this year’s tournament.

“As you can imagine, he is extremely disappointed but has confirmed that he will be playing in the doubles with Jamie and looks forward to competing at Wimbledon for the last time.” Replacing Murray in the singles is Belgian player David Goffin.
