Update:

When we think of Wimbledon it’s usually class and elegance that come to mind. The All England Club. The perfectly manicured grass lawns. The strawberries and cream. The all-white outfits that have become synonymous with tennis’ most graceful major.

Not everything is glam at Wimbledon

Well it’s not all Rolex sponsorships and royal family visits for some players, according to the Nothing Major Podcast hosted by retired players John Isner, Steve Johnson and Jack Sock.

While we think of the only major tournament to be played on grass as the most swanky of the four grand slams, the truth of the matter is, there are some things that are cause for compliant for this trio of American players who spent their fair share of time in England.

Among the things that sat a little strange to the three former pros were the cuisine, the lack of accommodations in the houses the players stayed. The excessive use of electricity which led to fines, and the local insects that seem to make themselves at home at the in the houses where the players lodge during the tournament.

Isner’s place in history

Tennis players travel maybe more than any other athletes in the world, other than golfers. They are sent all over the world, and of course will have their cities and tournaments that they like more than others.

John Isner never won Wimbledon, but he does live in the history books of the tournament. Him and Nicholas Mahut played the longest match in the history of Wimbledon back in 2010 when they played a three-day, 11 hour match that lasted 183 games culminating in a 70-68 tiebreak in the final set.

The first round of the Men’s and Women’s tournament started on Monday, and will go until July 13. Carlos Alcaraz won the men’s title last year, and Barbora Krejčíková won the ladies single title. They look to defender their titles from the All England Club over the next couple weeks.
