Zverev storms into Wimbledon final after dismantling Arthur Fery

With an astonishing, almost insulting ease against his opponent, dreamer Arthur Fery, Alexander Zverev punched his ticket to the Wimbledon final on Friday — the fifth Grand Slam final of his career and his second straight after winning Roland Garros just over a month ago.

The 29‑year‑old German rolled past Britain’s Arthur Fery, a 23‑year‑old ranked No. 114, 7–6 (0), 6–2, 6–4 in 2 hours and 13 minutes. Fery, who entered the tournament with a wild card, more than justified the All England Club’s faith with a breakout two‑week run.

On Sunday, Zverev will face Italy’s Jannik Sinner who defeated Novak Djokovic in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 y 6-4.

Zverev’s swagger is unmistakable

“I hope I get to play a junior,” Zverev joked, referring to the fact that his next opponent will either be the defending champion or a multiple‑time Wimbledon winner. “I have to trust myself, believe I can win — and that’s exactly what I’ll do.”

With this victory, Zverev becomes the seventh active player to reach a Wimbledon final, joining Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, Matteo Berrettini, Marin Čilić, Nick Kyrgios, and Sinner.

He also moves to fifth among active players in Grand Slam finals, trailing only Djokovic (38), Alcaraz (8), Daniil Medvedev (6), and Sinner (6).

He’s now the 13th player in the Open Era to reach at least one final at all four majors.

Zverev overtakes Alcaraz for world No. 2

Zverev’s run also shakes up the rankings: he leapfrogs Carlos Alcaraz to reclaim the No. 2 spot, a position he hadn’t held since May 5, 2025. Alcaraz hasn’t been outside the top two since that date.

If Alcaraz competes at the US Open, he’ll be the No. 3 seed, meaning he could land in the same half of the draw as Sinner. Depending on the luck of the draw, he might face Djokovic in the quarterfinals and Sinner in the semifinals.

Zverev praises the crowd — and stays locked in

“This Grand Slam has always been the toughest for me, and suddenly I’m in the final,” Zverev said afterward. “I’m very happy, very proud of my team, but we still have one more match on Sunday.”

He also applauded the Wimbledon crowd: “Even knowing that 99.9% of the stadium wanted Arthur to win, they were incredibly fair. A lot of stadiums around the world could learn from this one — it’s one of the best places to play.”
