Red Bull’s Max Verstappen will be on pole for the fourth time in four races this season, as the defending F1 champion bids to bounce back from disappointment at the Australian Grand Prix two weeks ago.

Having begun 2024 with wins in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, Verstappen was forced to retire in Melbourne due to brake failure, allowing Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz Jr to emerge victorious.

Four points ahead of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc at the top of the Drivers’ Championship standings, Verstappen has taken pole in Japan for the third year in a row, beating team-mate Sergio ‘Checo’ Pérez into second.
