Update:

You don’t need to be a diehard IndyCar fan to get pulled in by the Indianapolis 500. Once a year, the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend turns a two-and-a-half-mile oval in Indiana into one of the most-watched, fastest-moving spectacles in American sport.

The 109th running of the Indy 500 starts at 12:45 p.m. ET on Sunday, May 25. And whether you’re tuning in to cheer for a favorite driver, looking to witness a historic three-peat, or just want to see someone chug a bottle of milk in a fire suit, this year’s race has more reasons than usual to grab your attention.

Where is the Indy 500 race held?

As always, it’s at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, affectionately known as “The Brickyard,” in Speedway, Indiana. The nickname isn’t just for flair — the track literally has a yard of bricks at the finish line. And yes, the winner still kisses them.

The other curious fact about this course is the golf course that lives in relative harmony with it.

What time does the Indy 500 start?

Coverage starts well before the race. Driver introductions kick off at 11:47 a.m. ET, the national anthem is at 12:18 p.m., and the all-important “Start your engines” command is scheduled for 12:38 p.m. Then, it’s go-time.

How can I watch the Indy 500?

You can watch the race live on Fox or stream it via Fubo. It’s an easy way to catch every pit stop, pass, and crash – from your couch or backyard BBQ.

In case you’re wondering, Josef Newgarden won the 2024 edition, narrowly holding off Pato O’Ward and etching his name as just the sixth back-to-back winner in race history. If he pulls it off again this year, he’ll be the first ever to win three straight.
