A Clásico or Madrid derby...all the potential matchups ahead of Copa del Rey, Round of 16 draw
Sixteen teams remain in contention for the 2024-25 Spanish Cup with the draw taking place at the RFEF offices on Wednesday.
On Monday night, Real Madrid became the fifteenth team to guarantee a place in the draw for the next stage of the 24/25 Copa del Rey as they had little trouble in swatting lower league Deportivo Minera aside with a 0-5 win.
The third round comes to a conclusion on Tuesday night as second tier Eldense face struggling Valencia and as things stand, 11 LaLiga EA Sports teams have managed to reach the last 16. They will be joined in the draw by Almeria and Elche the Second Division along with Ourense CF from the third tier (1A RFEF) and giant killing fourth tier outfit Pontevedra.
Eldense/Valencia will be the final side joining the draw that will be held this Wednesday, 8 January at the Ciudad del Fútbol in Las Rozas starting at 1:00 p.m. (local time) / 7am (ET).
The Round of 16 Copa del Rey games will be played on January 14, 15 and 16 with all four non top flight sides guaranteed both a home tie and opposition from LaLiga.
The lower league sides will be dreaming of entertaining one of Spanish football’s ‘big guns’ with both Pontevedra and Ourense set to be the first teams drawn as part of the draw procedure.
