Aitana, Linda Caicedo and Jenni Hermoso: finalists for The Best
The Spaniard has won all of the major individual awards in 2023 as well as the Champions League and World Cup.
Next month, Aitana Bonmatí will have the chance to put the seal on an unforgettable 2023. In October, the Barça player was awarded the Ballon d’Or - in top of other individual accolades such as being voted the best player in the last edition of the Champions League and at the World Cup which she captained Spain to history, crowned champions for the first time.
Now she is also the big favorite to win FIFA’s The Best Award. She is expected to be named as the best player of the year, replacing her Barcelona team mate Alexia Putellas, the winner of previous two editions.
Fellow finalists
Aitana, who will be on the podium for the first time for the FIFA award, is not the only Spanish candidate up for the award. She will battle with her team mate, Jennis Hermoso, voted the second best player at the 2023 World Cup. The other finalist isReal Madrid’s Colombian forward Linda Caicedo, who finished ninth in the last edition of the Ballon d’Or.
The winners in both categories, men’s and women’s, will be revealed at the Best gala in London on 15 January.
