Atlanta United have fond memories of Miguel Almirón. ‘Miggy’, as he was affectionately known to fans of the Georgia club, scored 21 goals and registered 22 assists during his two seasons in MLS, a tally that earned him a move to the Premier League with Newcastle United.

However, six seasons after that journey to European football, Almirón could be about to leave the northern English club. After a resounding Champions League exit, the club need to readjust budgets and adapt to Fair Play, so several departures have been planned, with the Prague-born Almirón being one of them, which has got Atlanta United fans excited.

Almada’s future

By all indications, several recent developments have made the dream of a hypothetical return of Almirón feasible. Newcastle are willing to negotiate a fair price for the player, while the potential departure of Thiago Almada may provide Atlanta with the financial resources and space to acquire a player of the Paraguay international’s ability.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Al-Shabab and Newcastle have reportedly reached an agreement in principle for the tricky winger.

Jacobs has stated in his exclusive that Almirón is understood to be willing to move to the Saudi league, although nothing is official. If Almirón finally signs for Al-Shabab, he will be partnered in attack by Yannick Carrasco - another top forward.
