Alexander-Arnold sends public message amid Real Madrid talk
In the Spanish capital there is clear optimism about his signing, and the English star made headlines after scoring against West Ham.
As Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contract approaches its expiration in June 2025, optimism grows within Real Madrid about securing his signature. According to reports from AS, the Spanish giants are confident about finalizing his transfer as early as January. This story has also garnered attention in England, particularly from outlets like the Daily Mail.
In what was his last match for Liverpool in 2024, Alexander-Arnold gave fans and pundits plenty to discuss – not just off the pitch, but on it as well. During Liverpool’s commanding 5-0 victory over West Ham, the right-back scored his first goal of the season, netting the fourth in Arne Slot’s side’s rout. His celebration, however, sparked as much conversation as the goal itself: a hand in the shape of a mouth to his ear, a gesture widely debated on social media.
Trent’s celebration sparks debate
“The media are chattering” and “it’s all noise and rumours,” wrote Liverpool fans online, interpreting the celebration as a rebuttal to transfer speculation. For many supporters, it was a positive sign, signalling Alexander-Arnold’s commitment to the club amid uncertainty about his future. The right-back, known for celebrating with bold gestures toward the crowd, has only fuelled the speculation surrounding his next move.
Slot addressed the situation after the match in an interview with Sky Sports:
“No, I don’t think it’s negative at all. He’s playing really well,” the coach said. ”He scored a great goal and the way he celebrated his goal probably tells you enough.
“So I don’t think I have to say much more about it. I’m really happy with Trent, just as happy as I am with Mo and with Virgil. So for me there’s no difference.
“For the outside world maybe there’s a bit more things happening around Trent in the media than with the other two, but I’m happy with all three at the moment.”
Slot’s comments, a sort of “blah, blah, blah” dismissal, have left Liverpool’s fanbase more puzzled than reassured as they hope to retain a player who seemed destined to become a club legend.
Some fans also speculated over Trent’s potential comments to Salah when the Egyptian scored, using his hand to cover his mouth to any lip readers, but with a cheeky glint in his eye.
Support from within Liverpool
It’s not just fans who want Alexander-Arnold to stay. Curtis Jones, a fellow Liverpool academy graduate, added to the intrigue by posting a photo of the celebration on social media with the caption: “The Scousers in the team.”
Trent’s future in Madrid?
Whatever happens, Trent Alexander-Arnold will start 2025 as a Liverpool player but will also be free to negotiate with other clubs. With over 300 appearances for the Reds by age 26, his legacy at Anfield is already substantial.
But Real Madrid is preparing for what they hope will be the next chapter of his career. They envision Alexander-Arnold bringing his immense talent to the Bernabéu, potentially starting a new era in Madrid as early as June 2025, but a winter move has not been ruled out completely.
