Manchester United have gone from risking another season without European football to fighting for the top three down the final stretch of the season. Michael Carrick is the one responsible for turning the ship around at Old Trafford, but names continue to float around the Theater of Dreams as a potential replacement.

Luis Enrique is Evra’s chosen one

Former Red Devil captain Patrice Evra made sure to state that his former teammate Michael Carrick deserves a chance to stay on board if results continue to come in, but he has his eye on another manager that he considers the dream man for the dream job on the United touchline. Speaking with Stake, Evra said “I don’t speak to the Manchester United board or Sir Jim Ratcliffe, but honestly, and without any disrespect to PSG or Nasser Al-Khelaifi, I think Luis Enrique would be the perfect manager for Manchester United.”

Luis Enrique is looking for a repeat run to the Champions League final after a sensational season in Paris. He brought the French giants their first Champions League title, and he did it in a season in which the club lost Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid during the summer. Wherever he has gone, the Spanish manager has won, and Evra knows he could change the culture and the personality at United.

“I love the man, I love his philosophy, what he went through in his personal life and overcame it shows his personality. The job he’s done at PSG by bringing them a Champions League without Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe or Neymar, it’s a fantastic job. Players would have to work really hard to play for Man United, they’ll have to run a lot and I think Enrique would bring that” said Evra.

Carrick conneting club and players

Since taking over, Carrick has led United from the depth of the league ladder to the top three with six wins, a draw and a loss at St. James’s Park last week against a 10 man Newcastle side. The minor hiccup ends any sort of outside title hopes that might have crept into the minds of the fans at Old Trafford, but a return to Champions League is looking like a sure shot should things stay on track under Carrick.

Evra made sure to give Carrick his credit, and hasn’t discarded his former teammate as a long term option. “But, I don’t think we should write off Michael Carrick, he’s done a great job and we need to give him an opportunity. People want an amazing manager for Man United, but right now, we need someone who understands the club and the players,” affirmed the former Manchester United No. 3.

Carrick won’t worry about what the pundits or even his ex-teammates are saying about United. He has one thing on his mind, and that’s keeping his club as high up the table as possible in the final fourth of the season. After their stumble at Newcastle, United return home for a massive match against fourth placed Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon.
