Alexis Vega ready for World Cup with Mexico
The Chivas player has been one of the standout performers in the Mexico team led by Gerardo Martino.
Alexis Vega has become a key player for the Mexico national football team. The Chivas striker was the standout performer in the defeat against Sweden on Wednesday, scoring his third goal for his country.
The former Diablos Rojos player was on the scoresheet in the defeat against Colombia (3-2 on 27 September), in the 4-0 win over Iraq (4-0 on 9 November) and in the 2-1 loss to Sweden in Mexico’s final test before their World Cup opener against Poland.
In contention for starting spot
With the absence of Jesus Manuel Corona through injury, Vega is ready to start for Tata Martino at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The Chivas player and Hirving Lozano could get the nod in a likely 4-3-3 formation, but it remains to be seen who out of Henry Martin, Raul Jiménez or Rogelio Funes Mori will join them in attack.
Mexico start their World Cup campaign on 23 November against Poland, a match that is expected to be vital in the quest for a place in the last 16 of the tournament.
