Alfonso González wants to add to his goals against Tigres in the Clásico Regio. Of the current Monterrey squad, Ponchito and Rogelio Funes Mori are the only two players who have managed to score against Tigres.

“In the end, it’s not just about scoring against Nahuel (Guzmán) but also against Tigres. You don’t have to think of it that way, but being able to score in a Clásico always adds value to the goal and every goal is nice, just imagine in a Clásico,” said the player ahead of the clash.

129th Clásico between sides

González’s goals against Tigres are recent, as he scored in the 125th and 126th editions of the derby in which Monterrey lost the first and came out on top in the second. The 129th edition of the derby will be played on Saturday at the Estadio Universitario.

“At this stage of a Clásico, it doesn’t matter who’s top or bottom, it’s going to be a tough game. We’re expecting the best Tigres. We’re going to work in the same way we’ve been doing and try to win the three points with the same personality and the same commitment as we’ve been doing since the start of the tournament,” he said.

If Monterrey come out on top at the Volcan, they would practically clinch a play-off spot and move ten points clear of Tigres, who are currently chasing them and in third place in the overall standings.
