Canada returns to the World Cup for the first time since 1986 and they are aiming to go deep in the tournament in their second-ever appearance, in Qatar. On Sunday, the Canadian men’s national soccer team head coach John Herdman named his 26-player World Cup roster and it was headlined by Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies.

The left-back suffered a knock on November 5 in Bayern Munich’s 3-2 win over Hertha Berlin during matchday 13 of the Bundesliga. Davies was replaced in the 64th minute but fortunately it was nothing serious, although he missed the last three games across all competitions as he recovers from a torn muscle fibre.

Alphonso Davies will miss Canada’s pre-World Cup friendly game against Japan on November 17, but he will be ready to make his debut at the tournament six days later against Belgium in the group stage. The midfield of Canada will be led by Porto’s ace Stephen Eustaquio and veteran Atiba Hutchinson, who could become the oldest player to play at a World Cup at 39-years old.

Injury report

The players that were left out of the World Cup roster due to injuries are Maxime Crepeau from LAFC, Scott Kennedy from SSV Jahn and Doneil Henry from Toronto FC. Henry was initially included in the World Cup squad but got injured during warm up prior to the friendly they play against Bahrein on November 11.
