América braced for fixtures mayhem in the Liga MX

América is suffering from a fixtures overload in the Liga MX. On Sunday, coach André Jardine complained about the scheduling - a non-stop tun of matches to which he attributes mounting injuries within his squad. Unfortunately for him, the situation isn’t set to change any time soon - in fact, it’s about to get even worse. In the space of one week the Águilas will have three games, with two days of rest between each one.

The Apertura 2023 calendar is about to heat up with the Week 11 fixtures to be played midweek. For América, the run of matches begins on Saturday 30 September when they host Pumas in the Clásico Capitalino.

Following that match, Jardine and his players will have just two days of rest before they are back in action. On Tuesday 3 October they face Pachuca at the Azteca - a game corresponding to Week 11 of the Apertura 2023. Finally, the Águilas close an intense week a couple of days later on Friday 6 October when they visit Mazatlán in Week 12.

The good news is that once the game against the Buccaneers is out of the way, they will have some time to get their breath back as the Liga MX is put on hold for the international break. That will give Jardine the chance to recover some of his injured players like Israel Reyes and Sebastián Cáceres. Malagón and Valdés remain doubtful for the game against Pumas.

Kick-off for the Clásico Capitalino was rescheduled (original kick-off time was 9 p.m.) The game will start at the earlier time of 6:45 p.m. local time (8:45 p.m. EDT / 5:45 p.m.) on Saturday 30 September.
