With two wins in as many games, it looks like the Pumas board of directors got it right in choosing their new coach, Antonio Mohamed. The Universidad Nacional boss has confirmed that he turned down the chance to coach Al Nassr and Cristiano Ronaldo in Saudi Arabia.

“I had four sets of talks with Al Nassr and just yesterday morning I arrive at the club and I get a call from the CEO of the team. He tells me that he wants me because they sacked Rudi Garcia. It was a lot of money... I told him that I already had a commitment with Pumas, and that it was a question of loyalty. I would never leave a team to go to another one, that’s why I joined Pumas,” said Mohamed in a chat with Luis García of TV Azteca.

One year at Pumas

The Argentinian coach has a contract at the club until July 2024 and will have two full tournaments to put his mark on the team.

Universidad Nacional will have two important games coming up to secure their place in the playoffs. They will visit the Estadio Azteca and on the last matchday, they will go to Monterrey to take on Rayados.
