Araujo set to stay at LA Galaxy this season

Club América and FC Porto are amongst the suitors looking to sign the Mexico international, but he will remain with the Galaxy this campaign.

Julian Araujo has been one of the key players in Major League Soccer and has made clear progress each season since making his debut with the Los Angeles Galaxy in 2019. This campaign the 21-year-old has become a key player for manager Greg Vanney in the aspirations to qualify to the 2022 MLS Cup playoffs and win the title for the first time since 2014.

His solid performances this season have awoken the interest of Club América and FC Porto. Both sides have been closely following the development of the Mexico international and they were keen on signing him during the summer transfer window. However, according to sources from AS, Julian Araujo will remain with the Galaxy for the remainder of the season, but he will leave in January.

The 21-year-old was tempted with a move to Liga MX, but his dream has always been to play in Europe’s top tier. Araujo is under contract with the Galaxy until December 2025, so FC Porto will have to pay close to $6 million to sign him in the winter and he could arrive in the Primeira Liga on January 1st.

Greg Vanney on Julian Araujo

“We are certainly not planning on partying ways with Julian. For us right now is keeping all of our pieces together for the last games and playoffs hopefully. We are not in a sellers market right now, Julian is young and we don’t need to be in a rush. It’s about the right moment for everybody.”
