Having overseen two top-flight victories in two since taking over from Steven Gerrard in October, Emery now has the chance to become the first ever Villa boss to win his first three league games at the helm.

However, the Villains’ recent Premier League record against Liverpool is not good, albeit with one very notable exception. In their last nine league meetings with the Reds, they have lost every game - apart from their sensational 7-2 thrashing of the then-defending champions in October 2020.

World Cup winner Emiliano Martínez remains unavailable to Emery, so Robin Olsen is expected to deputise in goal. Midfielder Jacob Ramsey is out with a hamstring injury.
