Aubameyang joined Chelsea last summer while Thomas Tüchel was still in charge, but since the German coach’s departure he has not been getting the playing time he expected. New manager Graham Potter has made it clear that, even though the squad is in an injury crisis, the Gabonese forward is still not his first option. So it’s little wonder that Aubameyang is now considering leaving.

With the arrival of João Félix from Atlético Madrid, it seems that any chance that Aubameyang might have had of breaking into the starting line-up have disappeared for good. According to the Daily Mail, Atlético Madrid may be interested in bringing Aubameyang to Spain as a direct replacement for the Portuguese forward. The operation however would be completely separate from the one that took João Félix to Stamford Bridge. He is not the only player that Simeone has on his list of candidates - Memphis Depay is the first option.

The Mail adds that Atleti is not the only Spanish club that would be interested in bringing Aubameyang back to Spain, without disclosing who those clubs might be. Aubameyang’s numbers in LaLiga last year were excellent - he scored 11 goals in half a season with Barcelona, so he obviously would have no problems adapting to the Spanish game. He could be lured back to Spain if his situation at Chelsea fails to improve.
