Update:

Flick’s Barcelona, despite dropping two points at Montjuïc against Betis, remains firmly on course for the LaLiga title. In the last ten matchdays, the blaugrana have taken 11 more points than Real Madrid, opening up a four-point lead that leaves their rivals no longer in control of their own destiny. That’s right, in the last 10 games, Barcelona have added 28 points to Real Madrid’s paltry 17.

Until this weekend, Madrid had been eyeing the May Clásico at Montjuïc as a potential title decider, hoping for a miraculous 0-5 win that would swing the head-to-head goal difference—Barça triumphed 0-4 at the Bernabéu earlier this season. But after losing to Valencia in Madrid, not even a statement victory in Catalonia would be enough to take them top.

Real Madrid’s LaLiga dreams are almost over

The numbers leave little room for optimism in the capital. Madrid have dropped 13 of the last 30 available points. Defeats to Betis (2-1) and Valencia (1-2) have exposed Ancelotti’s team’s inconsistency, a far cry from the side that held a seven-point advantage just over two months ago. While Barça have rattled off nine wins (Valencia, Alavés, Sevilla, Rayo, Las Palmas, Real Sociedad, Atlético, Osasuna and Girona) and one draw (Betis), Madrid have managed five wins (Valladolid, Girona, Rayo, Villarreal and Leganés), two draws (Atlético and Osasuna), and three defeats (Espanyol, Betis and Valencia).

Back in matchday 20, Madrid sat atop the table with 46 points—two clear of second-placed Atlético and seven ahead of Barcelona. Ten games later, the turnaround has been nothing short of stunning: Barcelona now lead the league outright with 67 points, four clear of Real Madrid. Flick’s side have made up eleven points in just ten matches.

Points and performances

And it’s not just the points—it’s the performances. Barça have scored 31 goals over this stretch to Madrid’s 16, while conceding just six to Madrid’s 11. The gulf is plain to see. And the overall goal difference tells a similar story: Barça sit on +54, compared to Madrid’s +32—a 22-goal gap.

Flick’s streak of consecutive LaLiga wins may have ended at nine, but his unbeaten run lives on—now up to 22 matches and closing in on Frank Rijkaard’s club record of 24, set in the 2005/06 season.
