Barcelona officially confirm Spotify Camp Nou return date
After two seasons at Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium in Montjuïc, Barça are set for their long-awaited homecoming, which could host more fans than expected.
FC Barcelona has officially announced their long-awaited return to Spotify Camp Nou, set for August 10, when the club will host the annual Joan Gamper Trophy.
Who will Barça play in their first game back at Spotify Camp Nou?
While Barça’s statement stopped short of confirming key details—such as their opponent or the final attendance capacity—La Vanguardia reports that around 60,000 fans will be able to attend the game, marking a major upgrade from earlier projections.
Initially, the club had planned a much smaller event—something more reminiscent of the pandemic-era restrictions—with a maximum crowd of just 25,000. But rapid progress by Turkish construction firm Limak, which is overseeing the stadium overhaul, has allowed Barça to rethink those plans.
According to the latest information, the lower two tiers of the revamped stadium will now be fully open, significantly increasing available seating by about 35,000.
Barcelona last played at Camp Nou in May 2023, before moving temporarily to the Olympic Stadium in Montjuïc during construction. Their opponent for the Gamper Trophy hasn’t been confirmed, but one strong possibility is Como 1907, the newly promoted Serie A side now coached by Cesc Fàbregas and featuring longtime Barça player Sergi Roberto.
Barcelona’s Champions League wait
Barcelona has already submitted permit requests to the city council, fire department, regional police (Mossos d’Esquadra), the Les Corts district, and even UEFA, which must approve the venue for Champions League use. UEFA regulations require that all group-stage matches be played in the same stadium. Hosting the Gamper match on August 10 gives Barça roughly another month to continue preparations, as LaLiga has granted their request to open the 2025/26 season with three straight road games.
According to the club, areas still under construction include the new third tier, dual-ring VIP hospitality zones, the stadium roof, and final interior and exterior urban development around the venue.

“Coming back home, feel the vibe”
To mark the emotional return, FC Barcelona has launched a citywide campaign titled “Tornem a casa, vibrem” (“Coming back home, feel the vibe”), which includes a series of events and activations throughout Barcelona aimed at reconnecting the club, its fans, and the city itself.
Barça’s return to Camp Nou isn’t just a homecoming—it’s a statement. And if all goes according to plan, it’ll be made in front of a roaring, near-capacity crowd.
