Update:

Frenkie de Jong is emerging as the major surprise in the starting eleven expected to take the field on Tuesday at Stamford Bridge. The Dutch midfielder has become an undisputed starter in Hansi Flick’s tactical setup, particularly since Pedri’s absence due to a hamstring injury.

Over the past month, De Jong has taken on the responsibility of orchestrating the team’s play and has more than fulfilled that role. After serving his suspension on Saturday against Athletic Club, he arrives in London fully recharged.

Everything suggests that Eric García will join him in midfield, with Fermín López completing the trio. In principle, Dani Olmo would be the one to miss out.

No major changes are expected in attack, especially considering the form of Ferran Torres and Robert Lewandowski, who scored three goals between them in the previous match, along with the growing brilliance of Lamine Yamal, who is showing clear signs of recovery from his groin injury. As a result, both Marcus Rashford and Raphinha are likely to begin on the bench.

Joan García will start in goal, with his return having restored defensive solidity. In defence, Jules Koundé and Alejandro Balde are expected to occupy the full-back positions, while Ronald Araújo and Pau Cubarsí will likely form the central pairing.

It is worth noting that Balde had been recovering from a heavy blow to the neck, which forced him to remain in the dressing room after half-time against Athletic. Fortunately, the academy graduate has recovered in time and will be fully available for the match against Chelsea.
