For Barça, there is nothing like bringing the pre-season to a close than with the traditional Trofeo Joan Gamper - the chance for the fans to see the new-look team in action before the new season begins. This will be the 57th edition of the tournament and the second time that Barça have invited Mexican opponents to take part in their summer showpiece.
Club Universidad Nacional, or Pumas as they are more commonly known will be putting Xavi’ team to the test. Pumas accepted the invitation after Jose Mourinho’s Roma, who were originally contracted to take part, decided to bow out. This edition of the Trofeo Joan Gamper will serve another purpose as it will give former Barça full-back Dani Alves, the most decorated player in football history, the chance to bid farewell to the home fans. Alves returned to Barcelona last season but his contract was not renewed and he accepted an offer to play out his final years with Pumas.
