Barcelona are on the brink of signing a mammoth sponsorship deal with Nike, extending one of the most iconic brand partnerships in soccer.

Since 1998 Barcelona’s famed red and blue jerseys have been emblazoned with the Nike swoosh, a spell that has covered the most successful period in club history. Now, the club is set to sign a 14-year extension but there is one hurdle still to be cleared.

The huge $1.8 billion deal needs to be approved by the club’s members before it can be officially ratified. As a member-owned institution, a vote at an Extraordinary General Assembly is needed to close the agreement. An EGA has been scheduled for 11am on Saturday, December 21 to approve the deal.

It’s not expected that there will be any obstacles to the deal at this stage and it will provide a much-needed financial boost for the club. Barcelona are currently engaged in a legal battle with LaLiga to extend the registrations of Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor beyond December 31. As they have done consistently in recent years, Barcelona are toeing a financial tightrope.

How much is Barcelona’s Nike deal worth?

Barcelona’s current Nike deal has been valued at $112 million per year, and was due to expire in June 2028. Barça had reportedly considered switching manufacturers, or even creating their own kit, but have been tempted back by an improved Nike offer.

The improved 14-year deal would run until 2038 and is worth significantly more to the club. There’s a signing bonus of $169 million, paid across the course of the deal, and improved annual payments.

SportsPro reports that Barcelona will earn $132 million per year from Nike, surpassing all other manufacturing deals in soccer. That figure beats the $105 million that Manchester United receive from Adidas and even eclipses the $120 million that Adidas pays to Real Madrid.
