Serge Gnabry’s future at Bayern Munich is still up in the air and will not be resolved until the player returns from his summer vacation. He is due back next week and in the offices of the Allianz Arena club officials are more optimistic than ever that the German international, who has one year to run on his contract, ends up renewing in Munich. The player himself, as AS learned, has other options, but he feels comfortable at Bayern and would welcome a renewal.

There had been rumours about a salary offer which, according to German media, did not meet the player’s expectations. However, that doesn’t seem yo be the case - Gnabry is happy the salary, but did not like the manner in which it was delivered by Bayern. He felt that Bayern were not contemplating any another option other than him continuing at the club. That was made clear and the bosses understood his point of view and made it known that Gnabry is appreciated at Bayern by releasing a number of public statements to say so before the player went off to enjoy his vacations.

It is obvious Bayern bosses are nervous about Gnabry’s situation. They are aware that he is on the agenda of several top clubs including Real Madrid and do not contemplate starting next season with the player in the last year of his contract. Sports newspaper Kicker reports that there is a possibility that Gnarby could be ostracized if he decides to continue in Munich without renewing his contract. But the most likely outcome is the club will end up reaching an agreement with Gnabry to sign a new deal.

Gnarby’s best years are ahead of him and hopefully will sign the best contract of his career so far. He has several close friends in the squad - Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka or Leroy Sané, and that is a factor which will play in Bayern’s favour when it comes down to negotiating a new deal. David Alaba is also close to Serge. As AS learned, he visited him in Madrid recently. Gnarby knows that Madrid is attentive to his situation, but for now, Bayern is his first option.
