Canadian full-back, Alphonso Davies, has been on Real Madrid’s radar ever since he burst onto the scene following his move to Bayern Munich in Germany. Now, it seems that the race for the defender is hotting up, and the Spanish club could be readying a swoop if things fall into place.

According to reports from ESPN, Madrid are keeping tabs on the situation with the player who is considered the best footballer in North America, but Bayern are reportedly set to engage in talks to renew his current deal.

Davies would leave Bayern on a free if he does not sign a new deal

Despite this, ESPN say that the talks are at a standstill and the 22-year-old would not be opposed to a move to Real Madrid; manager Carlo Ancelotti is reportedly keen on the player too.

Given this, the German team may be forced to part with the services of the former Whitecaps player. Bayern are weighing up selling the full-back in the summer of 2024 if a renewal agreement is not reached, something which would prevent him from leaving for free.

Davies wants revenge on Barcelona

It should be remembered that Davies could have signed for Barcelona before arriving at Bayern, but in the end, the board led by Josep María Bartomeu reportedly ruled out the Canadian due to his nationality.

“Barcelona approached me, but the president said they didn’t want me because I was Canadian. I’m not going to lie to you, that hurt my feelings a little. The thing about me being Canadian was being said in the press. I don’t know if he really said it but it was reported,” Davies said at the time.

For now, Davies and Bayern are preparing to begin their journey in the UEFA Champions League, where the team led by Thomas Tuchel will face Erik Ten Hag’s Manchester United, a side going through a sporting crisis.
