The conversation around Javier Mascherano’s exit from Inter Miami just won’t die down — and now the reaction is coming from inside the club. Team president David Beckham opened up about the Argentine coach’s departure, insisting the players genuinely loved him.

Just days after the bombshell news broke in Miami, the former England star — now one of the club’s owners — acknowledged everything Mascherano accomplished, while also making it clear that this kind of shake-up happens everywhere.

“With Javier leaving two days ago, it’s tough,” Beckham told CBS Sports. “He came in last season, turned things around, and won our first championship. He’s an incredible person, a good coach, and the players loved him. But obviously these things happen in soccer clubs. We have to move forward, and at some point we’ll need to find a new manager. Right now, we just need to let things settle. Like I’ve said, we’re a team — and there are always challenges.”

Bringing Messi to Miami: Beckham’s proudest moment

Since Inter Miami’s launch, the workload for everyone involved has been enormous. But despite being one of MLS’s newest franchises, the club already has two trophies, a brand‑new stadium, and a roster full of global stars. For Beckham, that last part is the most rewarding — especially the signing of Lionel Messi.

“Building the stadium on our timeline was huge. Believe it or not, this place took just 16 months from start to finish — from breaking ground to hosting our first match last week. That came with plenty of challenges,” Beckham said.

“And of course, when you’re trying to sign the biggest and best player to ever play the game, that’s the ultimate challenge. Without a doubt, bringing Leo Messi here was my proudest moment with this club.”
