England star responds to Mexico boss’s X-rated World Cup jibe
Anthony Gordon has looked back on the moment when Mexico’s head coach, Javier Aguirre, could be seen sending a foul-mouthed verbal volley in his direction.
Mexico’s round-of-16 clash with England left plenty of positives for El Tri, despite a 3-2 defeat sending the tournament co-hosts out of the 2026 World Cup. It also produced a memorable moment involving Mexican head coach Javier Aguirre, who could be seen flexing his English-language skills with a foul-mouthed jibe at Three Lions winger Anthony Gordon.
The incident came when Gordon drifted over toward the touchline. Aguirre shouted, “Gordon, fuck you,” before breaking into a smile as the England player looked his way. Rather than taking offense, Gordon appeared amused by the remark and laughed it off.
What has Gordon said about Aguirre’s insult?
Speaking to The Guardian in the wake of England’s victory at the Estadio Azteca, Gordon said: “It was a bit of fun. With all the heat and tension around the game, it was a bit of fun. He was talking to me and Jude [Bellingham] throughout the game. There was a lot of tension, so to speak to me and Jude… I quite liked it.”

Mexico delivers a historic World Cup performance
The Mexican national team delivered on its promise. Before the World Cup began, players and members of the coaching staff spoke confidently about producing a historic tournament for El Tri. While Mexico ultimately fell short of reaching the quarterfinals, the team still achieved several milestones that made this campaign one to remember.
