Bravos stun Club América as 2023 Apertura season starts with a bang
Despite ‘Leo’ Suárez’s early wonder goal, the ‘Águilas’ were unable to hold on to their lead as Juárez secured a shock win in added time.
FC Juárez delivered a major shock in the opening game of the 2023 Apertura season with a late winner securing the first win in six for the border side over América. The Clausura 2020 was the last time the Bravos beat ‘Ame’ with the defeat marking a bitter Liga MX start for Brazilian coach André Soares Jardine.
Spanish player Aitor García and the youngster Ángel Zapata were the heroes for Juarez as Diego Mejía’s delivered an opening day shock in the MX League after Leo Suárez had put the home side in front with a fine first half effort.
Pumas win in Tijuana
Antonio Mohamed’s Pumas got off to a flying start in the 2023 Apertura and were forced to dig deep to secure their first win of the season at the Estadio Caliente against a dogged Xolos.
Savio was the hero for the university side bagging the winner in the 88th minute after Xolos led proceedings on two occasions during the contest.
In the other game of the night, Mazatlan and Pachuca drew 1-1 in Sinaloa.
