Brighton vs Manchester United preview
Brighton’s season has been remarkable, with Roberto De Zerbi’s side currently in 7th place in the Premier League table with 49 points. They have played two games less than two of the teams above them -- one of them Liverpool -- making their position even more impressive. Brighton advanced to the this semi-final by comfortably disposing of lower league Grimsby Town 5-0 in the previous round. Bookmakers are favouring them to progress against Manchester United, a feat they have never achieved before in this competition.
For United, it has been a difficult week as they suffered two significant blows when Varane and Martinez were ruled out for the rest of the season and they were then knocked out of the Europa League by LaLiga strugglers Sevilla on Thursday. Despite this, The Red Devils will take confidence from their past record against Brighton in the FA Cup, having not lost in their last five encounters. However, Brighton has already beaten United twice in the league this season, so the match is expected to be closely contested.
Brighton vs Manchester United: team news
Both teams have injury concerns with several players out or doubtful. Brighton will be without Adam Lallana, Tariq Lamptey, Jeremy Sarmiento, Evan Ferguson, and Joel Veltman, while Jason Steele is doubtful. For Manchester United, Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, Van de Beek, Phil Jones, Garnacho, Tom Heaton, and Harry Maguire are out, while Scott McTominay and Anthony Martial are doubtful.
Brighton vs Manchester United: prediction
I can make an argument for this game going either way, but the Seagulls are flying this season and everything is set up for them to have their big day against City in the final. It’s possible the game with go to extra-time but in the end it’ll be another disappointment for United.
