The summer soap opera of at Valencia is finally at an end. Carlos Soler is set to leave for Paris Saint-Germain after both clubs reached an agreement on a 17 million euro transfer fee plus additional bonuses that could take the final amount to 20 million. This afternoon, the young player accepted PSG’s offer of a five-year deal - not only because it represents a significant wage increase, but also because of the club’s ambitious sporting project. In Paris, he will be able to play alongside Leo Messi - the player he most admires, plus Neymar and Mbappé.

Valencia fail to persuade Soler to stay

Valencia spent Tuesday morning trying to persuade their captain to stay with an attractive renewal package, which Diario AS revealed - a five season contract in which Peter Lim broke his rule that players’ salaries cannot exceed 3 million euros; including various bonuses, Soler’s salary could have reached around 3.2 million. However, in spite what has been said, the distance between club and player remain and PSG’s offer was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that Carlos didn’t want to miss.

It brings to an end a relationship which began when Carlos started became the youth academy’s top scorer, made his first team debut, was made team captain, then called up b y Spain... And now he makes the leap to one of the top teams in the world. However, what happens in the next two months could affect his chances of being at the World Cup. Playing regularly with Valencia meant that Carlos had practically assured his place in the Spain squad but now he will have to fight to gain minutes at PSG. Soler did not want to base his decision solely on the fact that the World Cup is two months away, and believes in his own his possibilities to convince Luis Enrique to include him in the squad he will take to Qatar.
